How can we explain that, overnight, Rose-Aimée Bélanger, an artist from northeastern Ontario, experienced such dazzling success? Whether it is the Chuchoteuses, one of the most appreciated public works of art in the Quebec metropolis, or the Femme aux chocolats, the round bronze sculptures that she created starting in 1995 quickly earned her a loyal following nationally and internationally.
A discreet woman preferring the fertile calm of the studio to worldly affairs, Rose-Aimée Bélanger has created a generous and luminous body of work that accurately reveals the joys of everyday life. However, nothing seemed to direct this mother of a large family, wife and partner of an entrepreneur very involved in her community, to a “second” career, once the children left home. It was only in her late fifties, at the beginning of the 1980s, that she finally had the leisure to devote herself to art, having until then never had the opportunity to deepen this talent that she had demonstrated since childhood. And this is the sculpture she chose.
